The first step in growing in your own article marketing success is to take your mind off of your own articles and determine what makes any piece of online content exceptional in your eyes.
What makes you want to share an article or blog post that you find?
What makes you remember a piece of online content even after you ve turned off your computer?
When searching for information on the web, what makes you choose to click on one of Google s results over another?
We all know what we like and don t like, what we re drawn to and what turns us off. The trick is to take that information that we possess as a consumer and use it when creating our own online content.
I posed this intriguing question to a community of everyday people who are interested in article marketing, and the answers I received were enlightening.
1 – Outstanding content has an attention grabbing title.
This was the most frequently given qualification of outstanding online content. Your article title plays a huge role in your article s success. On an article directory, your article title will be a face in the crowd among other articles on similar topics, so it needs to stand out.
An outstanding article headline is specific, accurately indicates the topic of the article, and is phrased in such a way as to intrigue readers who are interested in your niche.
2 – Outstanding content is authentic–it shows something of the author s personality.
People like to know that the author of an article is a real person with real thoughts, feelings, opinions, and ideas. Explore sharing more of yourself in your articles, and your readers will respond to your openness.
3 – Outstanding content is original and offers a unique perspective.
Too often we see articles that are just rehashed versions of what others have submitted or perhaps just variations of articles that we ve written in the past. To create articles that readers find exceptional, we need to constantly expand our knowledge and pass the lessons we learn on to others. We also need to be creative with how we teach in our articles–you may be providing the same basic information, but you can teach it in a new and innovative way that makes your article fresh.
4 – Outstanding content teaches the reader something he can use to make his life better.
That is the ultimate goal of your article–it must be helpful to the reader. Your role in your articles is that of teacher: when your article helps the reader in some way, that makes your article memorable, and it makes the reader want to share it with others.
5 – Outstanding content makes the reader think!
Readers do not necessarily want to agree with everything you write, but they do want to see content that takes them out of their usual thinking habits. Do not be afraid to challenge your readers.
6 – Outstanding content is easy to read.
The consensus on this topic was that if the content was not easy on the eyes, that people will not read the article. What makes content easy to read? We re getting to that…
7 – Outstanding content appropriately incorporates bullet points, list items, and/or short paragraphs.
When I did my little poll, there were frequent requests for articles containing bullet points, numbered lists, and short paragraphs. These elements make articles easier to read.
8 – Outstanding content is written in language that everyone can understand and is not wordy .
One person who responded to my poll said quite nicely that outstanding content gets the point delivered with a minimum amount of words . We should all strive to write more simply.
9 – Outstanding content has proper grammar and spelling.
A grammatically correct article makes the article easier to understand, conveys high quality, and speaks to the author s professionalism. Before submitting your articles, please have an eagle-eyed friend proofread them for grammar and spelling errors.
I hope these tips have been helpful to you. Now I pose the question to you:
What makes content outstanding in your eyes?
